Crater Barn

The Crater Barn in Newberg, Oregon was going to be demolished to make way for a housing development. Our clients bought this 1920’s-era structure and hired Robert Knowles Construction to dismantle and move the it to their property. New shed additions support the original structure against wind loads, and double the square footage of the original barn. While the barn looks new on the outside, it is the original structure and walls you see from the inside.

Robert Knowles Construction made this a sustainable project via the following:

  • Rebuilt according to commercial codes, for possible future commercial use
  • Re-used 95-98% of original material
  • Maintained original 1920’s-era character
  • Incorporated insulation not formerly in original structure
  • Added windows for passive solar and daylighting
